Bob's Plan as Controller
My Plan to Improve the Office of Nevada State Controller
As your controller I shall immediately take charge to release the annual report pursuant to NRS 227.110 on time to the governor and legislature. I shall examine ways to modernize technology and data infrastructure to increase efficiency and reduce delays across all state agencies. I shall work with both parties to create a faster, more reliable financial reporting system to provide accurate information so lawmakers can make the best possible decisions.
Three realistic goals for Nevada’s next State Controller
1) Modernize and strengthen the state’s financial reporting systems.
2) Expand transparency and audit capacity by providing fiscal oversight.
3) Improve asset, revenue, expenditure and liability reporting.
Targeted Objectives
Fiscal Transparency — Emphasizing clear, accessible public reporting on how Nevada spends taxpayer dollars, including modernizing financial dashboards and improving public access to audits.
Efficient Budget Oversight — Stressing responsible stewardship of state funds, timely financial statements and strong internal controls to prevent waste.
Protection Against Fraud — Highlighting commitment to detecting improper payments, strengthening audit processes and collaborating with other agencies to safeguard public money.
Accountability to Taxpayers — Reinforcing that the Controller’s office works for the public, not political interests, by publishing clear financial summaries and performance metrics.
Timely Vendor Payments — Focusing on improving payment turnaround times for Nevada businesses, nonprofits and contractors who rely on predictable cash flow.
Cognitive, Adaptive DataDriven Decision Support — Promoting the use of analytics to help lawmakers understand longterm fiscal impacts, pension obligations and revenue trends.
